Dubai: An Indian expatriate won $1 million (around Dh367,000) in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire promotion on Tuesday, Dubai Duty Free (DDF) announced.

At the time of the announcement, Archibald Rodrigues, a Dubai-based Indian national, did not know he had won as he had departed the UAE. The DDF said on Tuesday: “Mr Rodrigues, who bought his ticket online, is currently out of the country, and will be greatly surprised when he finds out of his newfound fortune.”

The winner joined the long list of Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaires when his ticket (number 2589) in Series 243 was drawn earlier on Tuesday morning in Concourse B, Dubai International Airport.

He is the 117th Indian national to have won $1 million in the Millennium Millionaire promotion.

Also, a Finest Surprise Draw was conducted directly after the Millennium Millionaire, with Mohammad Rizwan, a Pakistani national living in Dubai, being named the winner of a Ducati Superbike 959.

Rizwan, a 33-year-old senior electrician from Green Fields for Feed Industries, bought his first-ever ticket (number 0558) and was excited to learn he won a motorbike in the Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Promotion in Series 305.
