Dubai: Dar Al Ber Society has launched a new weekly pop-up retail market where visitors can spend a good time together while contributing to a greater cause.

The Happiness Markets will be held on every Friday from October 13 at Zabeel Park, and from October 20 at Mamzar Park and will feature a number of retail outlets and food kiosks including games, activities and competitions for kids.

The primary purpose of the extended market will be to generate income for the humanitarian activities of Dar Al Ber Society and will also provide an opportunity for start-up companies, especially those owned by Emiratis, to promote their brands and generate cash sales.

Abdullah Ali Bin Zayed Al Falasi, CEO, Dar Al Ber Society, said people’s participation in the market will consequently contribute to Dar Al Ber Society’s efforts.

“We, at Dar Al Ber Society, invite residents to be a part of Happiness Market in whatever way possible, so that we all can contribute in spreading happiness in the society and help make Dubai the happiest city in the world,” he said.

The initiatives of Dar Al Ber Society have been supporting the underprivileged section of the society since 1979 by paying for their basic requirements such as medical expenses, schools fees, house rent and food. Participation in the Happiness Market could help save the lives of critically ill people and families in distress, and enable children to get education.

The event will also sport a different theme every month including food and fashion festivals from various countries.

The Friday Market, another market organised by Dar Al Ber Society, has been operational since January 2016 in Bur Dubai, and has had over 200,000 visitors so far.

Besides raising funds for charitable activities for Dar Al Ber Society, the market has been able to provide more than 15,000 free health check-ups and has distributed consumer products worth over Dh750,000 to the people of low income.

The Friday Market has been providing free stalls to several needy people and their families in order to support their efforts to increase their family income. More than 50 families currently depend on the market to generate income to pay for their monthly expenses.

“Participation in Happiness Markets can be a part of the social responsibility agenda for companies and individuals as it allows them to reach out directly to and support the neediest sections of the society. So, I appeal to everyone to come forward and join hands with us to support Happiness Market,” said Juhi Yasmeen Khan, charity initiative expert at Dar Al Ber Society.
