Dubai: Dubai Customs announced the official launch of the Smart Workplace Platform, which will reduce time and cost when finalising declarations.

The innovative initiative aims at turning traditional services into a unique user experience by accelerating the process of finalising declarations using a number of smart and innovative tools.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DP World, explained that the new smart workplace will accelerate the process of finalising customs declarations and reduce the time taken to between four and five minutes, instead of 20 to 40 minutes.

“Declarations consumed an average of 1.76 million man-hours annually and now, using the new smart platform, the number will be reduced to only 360,000 man-hours, which means a fivefold reduction,” he said.

He said the platform will help boost customs transactions and increase Dubai’s non-oil trade which witnessed a 17 per cent increase during the first half of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015.

The new smart workplace will also help companies save Dh68 million annually, he added. “This will help raise client satisfaction and boost Dubai Customs further to maintain its position as the top department on the happiness index, according to Smart Dubai Office.”

“DP World carries out about 18 million transactions annually, or 50,000 transactions daily. This huge number encourages us to always look for more innovative ways to handle this job,” he concluded.
