Dubai: In a joint initiative for the third consecutive year, the Guru Nanak Darbar Sikh temple in Dubai and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Abu Dhabi celebrated Tolerance Day by distributing food packs to blue collar workers at the temple in Jebel Ali Village over the weekend.

Part of the Festival of Tolerance, the event saw distribution of 4,500 food packs to the blue collar workers in the presence of Shaikh Nahayan Bin Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance.

The food packs including, rice, flour, sugar and pulses, donated by the Gurudwara while the backpacks were provided by LDS Charities from Salt Lake City, Utah, US. The joint initiative saw the leadership and volunteers from both organisations work hand in hand, from packing to distribution, in a display of brotherhood and togetherness.

“One of the distinct aspects of Dubai is the social fabric of the society here. People from different parts of the world, different religions, faiths, beliefs and practices prosper together here. We have the liberty to practise our beliefs. We come from a land with diverse cultures and faiths and live in harmony and believe in brotherhood,” said Surender Singh Kandhari, Chairman of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara.

The distribution began on Friday and was concluded on Saturday, which also saw the participation of Indian Consul General Vipul and Jeffrey H. Singer, Abu Dhabi Stake President, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Thousands of labourers from different companies benefited from the initiative, which is another example of successful partnership between the UAE government and different faith groups towards humanitarian services.
