Q: Can diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer be empowering?
True, being detected with breast cancer sets you back in a way that only a serious ailment can. However, if we remember to not give up the driver’s seat both physically and mentally, we spring right back in control. Women who are cancer survivors have not just survived but thrived because they empowered themselves with education, early diagnosis and screening, and the right treatments — no matter how scary or physically and emotionally draining those were at the time.
Today, their courage has given them and their families the precious gift of being around each other, and sharing one another’s lives. Isn’t that empowering?
