Last week was the American Thanksgiving weekend and so we’ve got a week of “Giving Thanks” and being grateful for all animals and their rescuers. The following profiles have plenty to be thankful for as do their rescuers in saving them often from an abusive, dangerous or just plain sad situation.
Pumpkin - K9 Friends
We are thankful that Pumpkin is with us because when he came in he was covered in ticks and suffering from Tick fever. If he had not made it to us, it is very likely this beautiful boy would have died from this disease which if left untreated can be exceptionally dangerous. Pumpkin is now back to full health. He is an 18-month-old German Shepherd who will need some training, but will make a fabulous family pet. Morag - K9 Friends
So thankful Morag ended up at K9 Friends. She was taken to the municipality and then taken out of the municipality, un-spayed and ended up back on the streets. Morag could have become another young mum with more unwanted puppies. Thankfully, Morag is now spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go. She is a gorgeous looking two-year-old girl, medium to large in size who has a lively personality. Gibson - K9 Friends
So thankful that Gibson has ended up at K9 friends. This gorgeous pup has had a terrible start to his young life and is very frightened of everything and everyone. We are thankful that every day when we go in to see him his tail wags a little more and he is now approaching us slowly. We are sure that in a few weeks this lovely boy will be a happier and more confident individual. Gibson is a husky mix and will be medium/large when fully grown. Snowy - Animal Action Abu Dhabi
Snowy is the little puppy we rescued with the four broken bones in her paw and arm. She is now fully grown . She is microchipped, dewormed and vaccinated. Snowy is deaf so needs an experienced family who will know how to train and communicate with her. She needs a home in a villa. She is good with dogs and children and is OK with cats. She likes to chase them for fun. Her foster mum said: “Snowy is a very sweet girl. Duchess - Wags and Purrs
Duchess is thankful to have been rescued from a breeder’s den; underweight and kept in a rusted cage, she learnt what love and care means in her foster home. She was given the name Duchess because of her elegance and poise, a very content and laid back cat who enjoys chin rubs. Duchess is fully vaccinated, spayed and microchipped. Malcho - 38 Smiles
This Thanksgiving, Malcho has loads to be grateful for and even more to look forward to. Malcho was found after a car accident with both of his hips broken. Two weeks ago he underwent double hip surgery. Luckily for him, the surgery was a success and Malcho is once again able to walk pain free! Malcho is a happy go lucky boy, grateful for any love, kindness and attention that he can get. Malcho’s biggest wish now is to find his forever home. Sky did not have a very good start in life. When she first appeared at the centre she looked like a skeleton, weighing only 11.6 kilograms. She was dehydrated, had skin conditions and was covered in ticks. But what we saw behind those sad eyes is an extremely loving and trusting dog. Despite everything that happened to her, she craves human attention and cuddles and is a very friendly girl. Panda and Pretty are thankful to have been scooped out of their previous living conditions. Growing up in a hoarder’s home was not ideal; they did not have the space to play or act like normal kitties, but they are compensating now. Panda will follow you around, jump on your lap and sit for as long as you let her. She will give kisses and head butts and purr her heart out. Pretty is equally loving and affectionate and craves human attention. Panda and Pretty are both fully vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. Dottie - Sandy Paws
Dottie will give much love and cuddles if she is an only cat or with one other gentle cat as she is scared of some felines. She was found in a car park with a broken leg after being dumped there. Was homed but then her owner left her behind when she left the UAE. She cries as she wants love and attention and to sleep on your bed. It’s heartbreaking and she needs a break. Spotty was found on the streets a few months ago. He was hit by a car back then but fortunately was not hurt! Hachi was found lose on Al Wasl Road on November 6, 2014. Hachi is a very friendly dog, good with other canines but likes to chase the felines. He does not like to be alone and cries, which will require training and a dedicated owner. For this very reason an apartment is not suitable for him. Sunny used to be kept outside in a villa’s garage, tied to a pole. She basically spent her childhood in the summer sun until a kind soul offered to take her in and away from her previous family. Sunny is around 12 months old, Dubai Desert Special Breed, has a lovely nature and is well behaved with other dogs. Caramel was found along with two other Chows in Rashidya at the beginning of the year. She was in foster care but needs a new place to stay now. Caramel cannot be re-homed with cats and dogs have to be tried first, no children and preferably in a villa with a garden. She is still very timid and will need time to settle in but will come around quickly with patience and positive reinforcement. This is Nola. She is a beautiful three-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross. We are very thankful to have gotten her before she fell in the wrong hands and used for fighting.
