Dubai: Driving licences and seasonal cards can now be renewed at the smart kiosks recently installed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

RTA installed 10 more smart kiosks recently at various locations, bringing the total number of operating smart kiosks to 16.

The self-service kiosks help customers access as many as eight RTA services.

The initiative comes following the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to bring happiness to people round the clock.

“We have got in place a plan to revamp our services via smart kiosks as we have recently noticed a significant increase in the number of users coupled with a higher satisfaction rating of customers processing their transactions through these kiosks; which save much of their time and effort,” said Ahmad Mahboob, Director of RTA Customer Service.

Kiosks are distributed over several locations including RTA Head Office and Customers Service Centres at Umm Al Ramool, Deira, Al Barsha, Al Twar, Tasjeel Al Barsha, JBR, Al Aweer, Al Manara, Al Karama, Tasjeel Al Ghusais, Wasl Belhasa, Quick Registration Al Nahda and Shamil Al Muhaisnah.

The renewal of driver’s licence and the renewal of seasonal parking cards services are over and above the existing array of services which include renewal of vehicle registration, inquiry and payment of fines, printing vehicle certificate, receipt of a document, issuing of vehicle registration card and issuing of replacement of damaged/lost vehicle registration cards.

“The RTA is assessing tenders for strategic investment partnerships with the aim of broadening the scope of smart kiosks and beefing up services on offer, as about 100 parking card transactions were processed within two days only. A plan is currently being implemented whereby these kiosks will be installed outside the premises of customer service centres so that customers can have access to these kiosks 24/7,” added Mahboob.

Another plan also under consideration is to offer other payment options, besides payment through credit card, which is currently in use, such as using NFC technology in smartphones, Nol cards and the e-purse.
