Sharjah: New paid parking areas have been introduced in Sharjah to ensure availability of parking spaces, Sharjah Municipality has announced.

The municipality said that the parking fees will be imposed in Al Mahatta area starting from Sunday.

Atif Al Zarouni, Director of public parking at the municipality, said that paid parking machines have already been installed in the area for easy access.

He added that the move will help ensure the availability of parking spaces for residents and visitors, and will deter motorists from misusing parking spots, as some tend to leave their cars parked for long periods of time without taking into consideration the needs of others.

He stressed that the municipality is keen on providing all necessary facilities for the public, which is reflected with the launch of the new SMS payment for parking fees.

He said that motorists can also apply for three-month, six-month or one-year parking stickers or cards that are available at Sharjah Municipality.
