Abu Dhabi: Energy topped the agenda in talks between the UAE Vice-President and visiting heads of state.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Tuesday met heads of delegations participating in the World Future Energy Summit, which began on Monday.

He received President Karolos Papoulias of Greece and discussed the summit's agenda and the desired results to achieve its goals.

The Greek leader expressed his country's keen interest in extending bridges of cooperation with the UAE in various areas, and invited Shaikh Mohammad to visit Athens.

The Vice-President welcomed Greece's participation in the energy summit which he described as a strong support to the UAE in its efforts to use alternative resources in generating electric power which would save money, reduce environmental pollution and eliminate global warming.

Alternatives

Shaikh Mohammad later met President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson of Iceland and his wife.

He referred to Iceland's need for alternatives of renewable energy because it is a very cold country.

The Iceland leader invited Shaikh Mohammad to visit his country, which he accepted and thanked him for the invitation.

Shaikh Mohammad also met Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohammad Najeeb Bin Tun Abdul Razzaq who thanked Shaikh Mohammad for the invitation to attend such a significant meeting.

The Malaysian Prime Minister said the energy summit represents a turning point in the history of Arab and Islamic countries on their way towards further cooperation and coordination in search of alternative energy resources. Shaikh Mohammad then received Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, Kuwaiti deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, who conveyed to him greetings from Kuwaiti Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah.

Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the foreign minister, other Shaikhs and senior officials were also present.
