Dubai: Twitter erupted with Emirati fury following a second armed attack on a UAE family in London by a seven-member gang on Tuesday. Hashtags #london and #london_is_not_safe were trending last morning.

Many Emirati tweeps who were planning to spend their summer vacation in London declared that they were re-considering their plans.

Tweep Shaikha UAE (‏@princessShwa5iM) wrote: “I would rather spend summer here in UAE! At least it’s safe! And there is police everyhwere!”

Another tweep @Mr_jumeirah agreed: “#London_is_not_safe I dont know why people regularly visit UK, UAE is a better place to live in.”

Twitter user @zainab_ABH plans to cancel his trip: “We were planning on travelling to London this summer, but it seems that we will be cancelling London from our plans!” Another user‏@its_more_easy posted: “No more london for me and my family anymore. It’s very scary… Even best hotels are not secure enough!”

Tweeps Aisha Al Nuaimi‏ (@Washey07), Khulood Oman‏ (@khuloodddd) and @AlNaqbi_UAE suggested that it might be advisable for fellow Emiratis to avoid going to London for their summer holiday.

Others said they would much rather tolerate the heat in UAE than get assaulted during a vacation. Tweep @MasoudAE wrote: “Having a hot and humid summer is much better than visiting a city and getting assaulted.”

@Hamad_AL_Jabri added: “Why should we visit and spend our time and our ‘money’ in an unsafe country? #UK #London”

However, some regular travellers like @AbdullaAlbani mentioned that such crimes were common in London. He wrote: “This summer I’m planning for Paris or London. And I always knew that #London_is_not_safe if you don’t protect yourself.”

Police

Other tweeps also criticised safety measures in the UK, some even had advice for the local police. Tweep Ahmad Gheyath ‘AG’ (@BinGheyath) wrote: “Dear London Police, please take into consideration that the security in London is so poor! Work hard to improve it.”

Tweep ‏@its_3ax posted: “Protection of visitors is the duty of the state where the London police failed to protect the innocent.” Another user Khwala (‏@iQueenK) wrote: “When we travel we want to enjoy & have fun not get attacked by hammers & knives, this is unacceptable!”

Tweeps such as @M_Alahbabim felt that the attacks are targeting the Emirati community in particular. He posted: “Armed attack and prevalence of violence targeting Emirati individuals in London raise questions about the British security.”

@A1_7amad_ad_UAE wrote: “London does not protect the people of the UAE in particular and second such incident within a month.”

User ‏@Alyah_aljasmi questioned: “Where is your human’s rights report on what happens to our UAE nationals in London?” Post by bshayer (@Bshayeralmail) read: “I wonder why #Emiratis were the main target in those #london assaults.”

Mariam AlRemaithi (@LAREINA__) #London_is_not_safe concluded: “If this happened in our country against British people, they will call us terrorists!!”
