Sharjah: This year’s edition of the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2014), themed ‘Different Roles... Mutual Interest’, will be officially declared open by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah on Sunday.

Following the first day of workshops for senior government officials and media professionals, the second day of the forum will see the opening ceremony followed by three sessions.

Along with a key note speech by Shaikh Sultan, the ceremony will also welcome Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the Soviet Union, as the guest of honour.

The first session of the forum will feature Felipe Calderon, former president of Mexico; James Wolfensohn, former president of the World Bank, and Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The session will discuss the role of government communications and reputation management in attracting foreign direct investments.

Meanwhile, the second session will discuss the relationship between government communication and social media activists, and the third will highlight issues under the title ‘Acute vulnerabilities of power, politics and systems in the new public information.’

The three-day forum will gather more than 25 regional and international professionals from the government, private and media sector, with an expected attendance of 2,000 to attend this year.
