Dubai: The Arab Social Media Award will have a positive impact on communication channels in society, said Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Executive Office of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Monday.
“Our goal is to recognise social media initiatives that make a truly positive impact on the ground,” he said.
The award was launched two days ago by Shaikh Mohammad.
“His Highness Shaikh Mohammad believes that combining the productive energy of youth with the vast capabilities of social media platforms can affect real positive change in the Arab world,” Al Gergawi said.
Shaikh Mohammad himself is as an early adopter of social media and is well known for frequent innovations online. He was the first world leader to announce a cabinet change on Twitter and earlier this year launched the largest-ever online brainstorm for government service improvement.
