Sharjah: Sharjah Media City (Shams) has started a training initiative to nurture new and aspiring talent in various fields of media.

As a part of the initiative, aspiring screenwriters were given an opportunity to learn from award-winning Egyptian TV and film writer Dr Ashraf Mohammad at a workshop held earlier this month by Shams, a free zone hub for innovation, designed to inspire and nurture creativity.

According to a press release issued on Monday, the free workshop was held in line with the strategic vision of Shams to provide world-class services to the media community.

Graduates, writers, entrepreneurs and individuals working in the media sector attended the workshop held by Dr Ashraf Mohammad, head of Scenario Department at High Cinema Institute, Cairo. The participants were given certificates on completion of the course.

Director of Sharjah Media City, Shihab Al Hammadi, said: “Shams seeks to create a community comprising of media and cinematic production companies. This workshop was held for those who are looking to specialise in media and film production."

The scriptwriting workshop was the first in a series of free courses to be offered by Shams in 2018.
