Dubai: In true patriotic fashion, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Saturday sent out national day greetings via SMS to Emiratis and expatriates alike, making social networking site Twitter abuzz with positive reactions.

In his SMS sent ahead of the 41st National Day celebration on December 2, Shaikh Mohammad said: “Brothers and sisters, I congratulate you all, and I congratulate my brother, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the occasion of the National Day of the UAE. It is the day of the nation, when we remember our founding fathers with great pride. And we look forward to the future with all the optimism.”

Residents took to Twitter their appreciation of Shaikh Mohammad’s gesture on Saturday.

Resident Katyusha (@KatyaMazarati) said: “Other leaders wouldn’t even think of surprising the people in their country with a ‘Happy National Day’ text, except UAE’s♥”

Others said, the SMS came as a pleasant surprise and a good way to start their day and month.
