Dubai: Out of Instagram’s 600 million active monthly users, the Ruler of Dubai has made it in the top 10 list for having the most followers.

World leaders and foreign ministers from 140 countries are making the most of social media to share their pictures with a global audience, representing 72.5 percent of all 193 United Nations (UN) member states.

A report published on Wednesday by PR firm Burson-Marsteller has revealed which leaders are the most followed on Instagram. 

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of, Dubai was ranked at eighth place with 2.3m followers on his @hhshkmohd account.  

Jordan’s Queen Rania was the sixth most followed leader in the world with 10m followers.

As of April 1, 2017, the study analysed 325 accounts that have a combined total of 48.7 million followers and 61,281 posts in the past 12 months, which have garnered a total of 371.7m interactions.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was named as the most followed world leader on Instagram with 6.8 million followers, followed by US President Donald Trump with 6.3 million followers.

However, both leaders combined have fewer followers than former US President Barack Obama who left office on January 20, 2017 and now has 13.8 million followers on his account.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei complete the Top 10 list.
