Sharjah: Experts from around the world will be tackling today’s publishing issues at the third Arab Publishers Conference (APAC).

The two-day conference, which will be held at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre, will commence on November 2 with speakers from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and Asia attending.

The conference is organised by the Arab Publishers Association and the Emirates Publishers Association. It will be held under the theme ‘The Publishing Industry: Prospects and Challenges of the Digital Age’.

The conference will include relationship building sessions, professional meetings, presentations and keynote addresses from Shaikha Budoor Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, founder and honorary president of the Emirates Publishers Association. Also speaking at the event is Alec Ross, US expert on innovation and adviser to US secretary of state Hillary Clinton and president Barack Obama.

Issues such as property rights, digital piracy, electronic distribution, freedom of speech, translation and the Arabic language and the evolution of the publishing industry will be addressed throughout the conference. Speakers such as John R. Ingram, chairman of the Ingram Industries Incorporation which manages Google’s relationships with strategic partners in the book, newspaper and magazine publishing industry, will share their experience and knowledge through their sessions.

A large turn out by publishing professionals from across the world is expected including directors of national libraries, intellectuals, writers, managers of Arabic book exhibitions, journalists and even university students.
