Dubai: With a couple hours of extra down time each day during Ramadan, observers across the UAE continue to turn to television and online sources for a wide variety of comedy, television series and information on charity organisations to make donations.

The activity every year is tracked by global giant Google to get a better grasp on content users seek when time allows during the holy month.

According to internet World Stats, there are 141.9 million online users in the Middle East’s population of 250 million people.

Of the UAE’s population of 9.3 million people, 8.5 million are internet users, said internet World Stats.

On Sunday, Google said clear trends have emerged in the early days of Ramadan, revealing the more popular searches and viewing habits of people in the region.

Gulf-produced shows “Romana” and “Kan fi Kul Zaman” led the list of most trending TV series on Google.

As for YouTube, comedy led the list with prank show “Hani Haz Al Jabal” coming in at number one closely followed by “Shabab Al Bomb”, a Saudi comedy production.

Topping the charities list, Noor Dubai and Dubai Cares were the two most trending charities on Google:
