Dubai: The Arab Journalism Award’s (AJA) board of directors has approved adding the ‘Smart Journalism’ category, the first of its kind in the Arab world.

The award will be granted for the best journalistic use of smart technologies to cater to a wider audience, especially youths, who represent a large number of the new media audience.

The new category was approved following a proposal submitted to the board by the award’s General Secretariat, represented by Dubai Press Club (DPC).

The General Secretariat stated that the new category is in line with keenness to keep abreast with the rapid global development in the media field in general and journalism in particular, and rapid development in the field of e-publishing.

Mona Ganem Al Merri, Secretary General of AJA and Chairwoman of DPC, expressed her heartfelt thanks to the board members for their massive support, which had a great effect on reaffirming the award’s pioneering position and success.
