Dubai: You can now watch a movie and then hit the beach just a few metres away if that’s your wish.

Reel Cinemas at The Beach, a shopping and leisure complex along The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), opened on Tuesday night with the GCC premiere of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It is the emirate’s first cinema by the beach.

The cineplex, with seven standard cinemas and three Platinum Movie Suites, caters to residents of JBR and New Dubai. A Platinum Lounge is also available, giving movie-goers a full-fledged dedicated kitchen to serve them as well as a view of the Arabian Sea.

“The cinematic experience will be very enjoyable. We have the latest in terms of sound system, the seats, the ambience; going to the movies is all about the whole experience. It’s pure luxury in there,” Gordon Kirk, Director of Reel Cinemas, told Gulf News.

Managed by Emaar Retail, Reel Cinemas at The Beach can host nearly 900 people and have five 3D screens. All cinemas have state-of-the-art projection and audiovisual systems. The standard cinemas can accommodate 109 movie-goers and has provision for a person with disability.

The three Platinum Movie Suites each have 36 adjustable seats complete with stowaway side tables, lamp shades, call buttons, and free meal delivery.

“You can recline your seats and lie flat but the danger is if the movie isn’t too exciting, you might fall asleep,” Kirk said while giving members of the media a tour on its opening day.

Hollywood, Bollywood and Arabic movies will be screened at the Cineplex. The cinema opens at 10.30am and closes on weekends at 2am.

Same pricing as The Dubai Mall applies, with standard cinemas at The Beach offering tickets at Dh35 for 2D films, and Dh45 for 3D movies plus Dh3 for 3D glasses. For the Platinum Movie Suites, 2D movies cost Dh130 and 3D ones Dh160.

An open-air cinema recently opened just outside the Reel Cinema plaza, giving residents a chance to watch previously screened feature films with the Arabian Sea as the backdrop.
