Dubai: Fifteen winners of the Gulf News Subscription Promotion were invited on Sunday to collect their prizes of a gold shopping voucher worth Dh10,000.

The winners, who included first-time subscribers as well as renewing subscribers, were selected in a raffle held on January 10.

Those who had subscribed for a year’s subscription of Gulf News between November 15 and December 31, 2015 were eligible for entry to the raffle, which was held as part of wider ongoing subscription promotions.

On Sunday, a number of winners visited the Gulf News office in Dubai to collect their prizes. Rajeev Khanna, Commercial Director, Gulf News, handed over the prizes to the winners.

“When I got the call saying I had won, I first thought it was a joke. I’m a subscriber of many years and had renewed my subscription without even thinking about the promotion. I was pleasantly surprised to hear of my win,” said Sheena Shahani, a subscriber who is from India.

Another Indian subscriber, Bernie, said she has also been a Gulf News subscriber for many years. She said on Sunday: “I’ve won things before in my life but nothing like this. It’s a special day for me as it’s my son’s birthday too.”

The vouchers entitle winners to shop for gold and gold jewellery worth Dh10,000 as a one-time redemption. The vouchers are valid until November 2016. The promotion was run as an early-bird offer for those signing up for their annual subscription of Gulf News.

A similar promotion was held in 2014 but it was limited to 10 winners and only those who had subscribed online were eligible for the raffle. This year, 15 people, regardless of how they had subscribed, were given the prize.

Sabyasachi Gupta, Business Support Manager, Gulf News, said: “This has been one of the most successful and biggest campaigns ever… And the subscription receipts have been pouring in.”
