Abu Dhabi: An Indian singer is attempting a Guinness World Record in Abu Dhabi by singing continuously for four days. Sudheer Paravoor, 35, from Kerala told XPRESS his solo musical marathon will last up to 110 hours with a five minute break every hour.
“It is a huge challenge but the singer in me is confident. My vocal chords will have to endure enormous strain to last that long,” said Paravoor who runs a Kerala-based music troop ‘Guinness Beats.’
The breathtakingly long concert will be held on February 16 at 7pm at the India Social and Cultural Centre. Paravoor said he will be singing more than 650 songs in three languages – Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi. And most of the songs will be repeated over and over in the course of four days.
Singing marathon
It will be Karaoke singing without the accompaniment of live orchestra.
Speaking to XPRESS over the phone from Kerala, Paravoor said he may continuously sing for 10 hours at a stretch and club his five minute interval into an hour.
“There is no hard and fast rule about when I can take a break. It can be either five minutes every hour or I can choose to take a longer break depending on how many hours I sing non-stop,” explained the singer.
Speaking about the preparations for a singing marathon that will go on for days, Paravoor said he has been practicing for nearly five years. “There is hardly a time when I am not singing. I sing for hours whether it is at concerts or at home,” said Paravoor who has previously sung non-stop for 24 hours at a venue in Kerala.
Born into a poor family, he said he had to give up his music classes because of financial hardship.
But that did not deter the singer in him. “I was not willing to give up singing that easily. I can skip a meal but cannot stop singing.”
Now Paravoor says his aim is to beat two past records for the longest singing marathon by individual singers. In September 2011, Italian singer Leonardo Polverelli sang non-stop for 101 hours with designated breaks in between and set a world record which was broken by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare. He sang for 105 hours from March 3 to 7and lasted 105 hours.
“I am trying to cover both these records by singing for 110 hours. This is the ambition of my life, and I really hope I make it to the world records,” said Paravoor.
The entire concert will be recorded and will be submitted to the Guinness Record officials who will verify the claim.
