Dubai: Global Village opened its gates to the public on Wednesday night, promising a supersized six-month offering until April.

Global Village, the region’s first and largest multi-cultural festival park, kicked off its 22nd season with the theme “Come Experience the World”.

Representing more than 75 countries through 27 pavilions, Global Village will showcase the participating country or region’s signature monuments and landmarks with new and distinctive facades. The new pavilions include Oman, Bosnia and Bangladesh.

“Over the past months, our team has worked very hard for this moment and we are back with a series of entertaining shows and surprises. We are excited and ready to spread happiness among our guests and our exceptional experiences will leave them with memories that last forever,” said Badr Anwahi, chief operating officer of Global Village.

Global Village will host more than 12,000 cultural and entertainment shows throughout the 158 days of Season 22.

Among the new shows is the ‘High Voltage’, an incredible stylised circus show that features the cast work hard to generate power to run the “machine” and create sparks flying around.

Making a comeback this year is the Viva Bollywood but better following the success of the show from the 19th season. This year’s Viva Bollywwod II comes with a full Indian cast coming from Mumbai.

Global Village Dubai season 22 also presents new infrastructure enhancements as it does every year. It includes a Cultural Square and a Global Village Boulevard.

Award-winning theatrical cultural performances and concerts will be held every Friday. The main cultural stage will host one of 20 Arab and international stars, with Abdullah Bil Khair set to take the stage on November 3.

More than 80 artistes were selected from the UAE, London, India and China. They include confirmed artistes include Tamer Hosni, Mohammad Al Salem, Shreya Ghoshal, and Mike Singh.

Shows featured during the month of November will include ‘Tall Tales’, which bridges the reality between huge theatre screens and its exhibits, and a number of high-energy acrobatic stunts.

The new Mega Monster Stunt Show features the latest range of technologies, special effects, cars, bicycles and audio and video effects that are globally best-in-class.

The Carnival will be this season’s key attraction with 28 rides, 34 skill games and more than 100 arcade games in a new Arcade building designed as a carnival tent. Rides are divided into three categories: children, family, and thrill rides.

The popular bazaars complete with products and crafts, heritage corners and cultural performances are also back.

The dining choices are plenty with various cuisines available, plus the popular food carts spread across the theme park.

Global Village: At A Glance

The city’s leading family entertainment and cultural attraction venue offers a variety of dining options from different cuisines, along with thrill rides and children’s rides at the Fantasy Island.

Timings

Global Village is open from November 1, 2017 until April 7, 2018.

The park hours are: Saturday to Wednesday, from 4pm to 12am (Entry gates close at 11.30pm)

Thursdays, Fridays and public holidays, from 4pm to 1am (Entry gates close at 12.30am)

Monday is a family day (except on public holidays)

Location

Launched in 1997, Global Village was first based on the Creek side, then Oud Metha, then Dubai Festival City, until it found a permanent home in 2005 on Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road Exit 37.

Entry fees

There is a Dh15 entry fee. Tickets can be bought online or at the door from 3.30pm onwards.

How can I get there?

Car: Global Village is located at Exit 37, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, Dubai, UAE.

Bus: The RTA has set up two bus routes to allow the public affordable and easy access to Global Village. The first route (103) starts from Union station, while the second route (104) starts from Al Ghubaiba station. The service runs from 3.15pm until 11.15pm, with 30 minutes of travel time.

Two new bus routes have been added in order to access Global Village: Route 102 from Rashidiya metro station, and Route 106 from Mall of the Emirates Station.
