Sharjah: More than 2,000 photographers from 60 countries have submitted work to be judged in a Sharjah festival next month, organisers said on Saturday.

The first Xposure International Photography Festival, to be held from October 12-15 at the city’s Expo Centre, is expected to bring together world famous photographers, as well as budding amateurs.

The deadline to submit images to be judged at the festival is September 30. The contest has so far seen the most entries from the UK and UAE, said Tareq Saeed Allay, director of Sharjah Media Centre, the contest’s organiser.

A jury of globally acclaimed photographers and experts will judge the entries.

Photos will be judged based on their impact, composition, and how compelling they are, said Chris Collacott, an award-winning Canadian photographer who is serving as one of the judges.

The ace photographer advised contestants who planned to submit images of landscapes or cities to keep them as true-to-life as possible.

“Having impossibly gigantic moons or scenes that are clearly impossible to exist in real life — those will not score well. Keep those horizons realistic,” he said.

Competition categories include photojournalism, current affairs, landscapes, street photography, as well as camera phone photographer aimed at competitors under the age of 14.

Entering work for all competitions is free and open to everyone.
