Sharjah: The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) will kick off ‘The World’s Brightest 5K Run’ on Friday from Al Majaz Amphitheatre passing through Al Majaz Waterfront in Sharjah.

The neon night run, held in collaboration with organisers Fast Track, will feature a colourful combination of demonstrations of lights, music and fitness.

Fast Track on Wednesday said tickets are still available for sports enthusiasts and fitness-lovers who wish to participate.

Tickets, priced at Dh215 per participant, are available online at www.ElectricRun.ae and at GO Sport stores in Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates, and Fitness First Clubs in Sharjah, Mirdif City Centre and BurJuman Centre in Dubai. Tickets are also available at ticketing kiosks at Al Majaz and Al Qasba.

Shurooq COO Ahmad Al Qaseer said: “We are truly delighted to be a part of this widespread international event, which has toured major cities around the globe including London, Chicago, New York, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Now in Sharjah, we look forward to welcoming all visitors and sports enthusiasts taking part in the run.”

The run’s debut event in the UAE completely sold out when it took place in Dubai’s Meydan area last November, followed by another run in January at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.

This year’s latest run marks its debut in Sharjah, which is set to kick-start at 7pm and last until midnight.

Main roads in Sharjah to be closed during the event include Corniche Street, the waterfront side of Khalid Lagoon (Buhairah), starting from the Public Coffee Shop to Al Majaz Island.

David Sanderson, race director at Fast Track, said: “As part of our mission to celebrate wellness and happiness everywhere around the world, Electric Run Sharjah is open to all visitors regardless of physical fitness or age.”
