Dubai: The Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) has prepared a long list of family-centric activities for this summer, including the Dubai Summer Surprises.

“With Dubai’s calendar of events for 2015 getting off to a successful start with the 20th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival, followed by the second edition of Dubai Food Festival, we aim to keep up the citywide momentum with the festivals, special occasions and celebrations that we have lined up for the rest of the year,” Laila Mohammad Suhail, CEO of DFRE, said.

“As the summer months have become a crucial period for the two pillars of the emirate’s economy — the tourism and retail sectors — our annual summer campaign plays a pivotal role in positioning Dubai as the summer destination of choice with the aim of attracting more visitors from around the world,” she added.

Over the past two decades, the festivals organised by DFRE have helped boost the retail and tourism sectors, attracting millions of visitors and injecting billions of dirhams into the economy of Dubai. As key drivers of tourism growth, the festivals and events organised by DFRE are part of the concerted efforts being made to boost the emirate’s tourism arrivals to 20 million as envisaged in Dubai’s Tourism Vision 2020.

The 2015 summer calendar will begin with Ramadan in Dubai from June 19 to July 17. This will enable visitors to absorb and experience the special ambience reflecting this important month in the Islamic calendar.

The summer line-up also includes the 16th edition of Modhesh World, one of the region’s biggest family edutainment destinations, Eid in Dubai, and the 18th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises, the region’s much-awaited summer festival.

The third edition of Dubai Motor Festival is in November, a celebration of all things motoring aimed at showcasing Dubai as the motoring capital of the region.
