Abu Dhabi: The winners of the seventh session of the Khalifa International Date Palm Award were announced yesterday in Abu Dhabi while the honouring ceremony will be be held on March 15 at Emirates Palace Hotel in the capital.

The seventh session of the Khalifa International Date Palm Award was one of the biggest yet in terms of participants, with 23 countries being represented, 16 of which were Arab, and seven non-Arab nations such as the United States and Germany. The award also featured 134 researches and studies in several categories.

Dr Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary-General of the Award, told a press conference yesterday (Sunday) that since its inception, the Khalifa International Date Palm Award has made great strides with the blessing of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He said that the Date Palm Award has attracted several important professionals in the date palm sector from both the Arab and international scene.

Dr Helal Hamid Al Kaabi, Head of the Administrative and Financial Committee of the Khalifa International Date Palm Award, said the award has made great strides and realised a quality shift in the field of research and studies for date palms.

The first placed winner receives a prize of Dh300,000, a trophy, and a certificate of appreciation, while the second placed winner receives Dh200,000 as well as a trophy and a certification of appreciation.
