DUBAI Slices of New York, London, Paris and Christchurch will come together in Dubai later this month when the much awaited BOXPARK project opens officially in Jumeirah on Al Wasl Road.

Inspired by purpose built temporary ‘pop-up’ structures popular in those cities, Dubai’s sprawling BOXPARK will be a self-contained destination to shop, dine and relax in the open.

Made up of an eye-catching line-up of 220 shipping and industrial containers of various colours on a 1,200-metre stretch, BOXPARK will have as many as 44 high-end F&B outlets and retail stores - all busy putting the finishing touches before their grand debut in about a week’s time.

Novel concept

“We are checking all last minute details. The sign is up and we are almost ready to hit the street,” said the manager of a fashion store lining up at this inaugural concept mall that also uses other unconventional building materials such as concrete and steel to add a touch of modernity.

Developed by Meras Holding, BOXPARK looks to provide a refreshing alternative to large and often closed indoor malls, thanks to its eclectic mix of restaurants, cafes and high-end fashion outlets, stylishly merged with open spaces and amenities.

“Dining out inside a shipping container sounds like great fun,” said Indian Anish Khurana, a resident of the nearby Al Bad’aa area. “I drive by this stretch every evening and I am quite attracted by how it looks from outside, especially the colourful scheme of the place. It looks like it will be a great family destination to not only shop and dine but also soak up the outdoor ambience in this lovely weather.”

American Natalie Cox, a resident of Jumeirah 1, said BOXPARK will be a great addition to the surrounding community. “I see it becoming the new social hub of Dubai. I am so looking forward to visiting the place as some of the restaurants there are really top notch.”
