Dubai A Pakistani youth in Umm Al Quwain suffering from chronic kidney disease is desperate for help to get treatment.

A Type 1 diabetic, Ghulam Jan Murad Ahmad, 30, said he has been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (Stage 4 FSGS) with severe complications. “My condition is worsening by the day but I have no recourse to treatment as I cannot afford it.”

Ahmad said there were two options before him – either to go in for dialysis or a kidney transplant. But he was unfit for a transplant as he developed complications when he was on steroid medication and had to undergo two hip surgeries.

“I am very weak, tire easily, cannot walk properly and have lost my appetite. I am told I will have to be put on dialysis any time now. Once that happens, there will be no stopping it.”

Given the complexity of his case, he said he has been exploring the possibility of a systemic mode of treatment in China. A copy of a report from a Chinese naturopathy hospital, which specializes in treating kidney disease, said a combination of traditional Chinese herbal therapy and western medicine could help him.

“But no matter what avenue I have to take, I do not have the money,” said Ahmad. “My father is retired and I have four brothers and two sisters, only one of whom works. So we cannot possibly raise the funds. The treatment in the Chinese hospital alone costs $15,000.”

He said he was pursuing his masters in Economics but was forced to abandon his studies because of his poor health. “I want to have a normal life like other youths my age, but a bleak future stares at me. I appeal for help because only a miracle can save me.”
