Dubai: The Ministry of Health and Prevention has denied rumours circulating among members of the community, which claims that Vitamin B17 can treat cancer.

The ministry said that the video being circulated provides unscientific and misleading claims regarding the vitamin’s ability to cure cancer. Dr Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing Sector at the ministry, said that the rumour lacks any scientific facts from any international health organisations or cancer societies.

He warned about the consequences of spreading misleading rumours regarding treatments for such a dangerous disease that leads to millions of deaths around the world.

Al Amiri said that scientific studies conducted on the product did not prove that it is efficient in treating cancer, and added that the product can cause a number of dangerous side-effects that are more probable to occur if the product is orally ingested.

Al Amiri stressed the importance of confirming information pertaining to the safety of medical products registered in the UAE or any circulars issued by the minister. He said that for such information, the public can contact the ministry on 042301000, or by emailing pv@moh.gov.ae, or the Tamini service page on the ministry’s website.
