Abu Dhabi: Veterinary laboratories of Abu Dhabi Food and Control Authority (ADFCA) have become the first accredited laboratories in the world to detect coronavirus in camels according to ISO 17025, a standard for which most labs must hold accreditation in order to be deemed technically competent.

“In this journey, dedicated to the development and protection of our animal wealth, we have marked a number of achievements which include not only the introduction of the rapid detection test of coronavirus in camels and the application of molecular biotechnology but also to have these tests accredited according to ISO 17025 from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS),” Salama Suhail Muhairi, Director of ADFCA Veterinary Laboratories Division, said.

She said ADFCA recently signed an agreement with the World Animal Health Organisation (OIE) for capacity building of animal disease detection and identification by which the veterinary laboratories of ADFCA will be considered the OIE Reference Centre for camel diseases in the region.
