Dubai: The International Medical Corps (IMC), a global first responder in humanitarian crises and man-made disasters, says it is choosing the UAE as its regional hub for all its activities in the region.
It made the announcement on Tuesday on the sidelines of the two-day Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development (DIHAD 2015) Conference and Exhibition.
The IMC opened its office in the UAE last year and is a member of the International Humanitarian City in Dubai.
Elaborating on the choice, Kevin Noone, Managing Director of IMC, UAE, told Gulf News: “The UAE has become the nucleus of humanitarianism. The reason for choosing the UAE as our regional hub is multifold — basically UAE is the ideal logistical hub for the Mena region. One can bring in all humanitarian goods and ship it anywhere in the world. It has warehousing facilities second to none in the world. We were successfully able to ship all our medical supplies and equipment for Ebola to affected African countries from here. The UAE has a huge catchment of highly skilled workforce of expatriates and Emiratis in every field and in IMC we need to deploy workforce in health, logistics, administration, finance. Besides, the vision of the leaders and their magnanimous humanitarian work has set up an exemplar precedent. Charity and humanitarian aid are part of the local culture here. We are a member of the International Humanitarian City here.”
Noone also added that he saw the footprint of IMC growing and operations of the IMC expanding with the setting up of the UAE office.
