Dubai: The sixth edition of the three-day UAE Cancer Congress was inaugurated on Thursday.
Opening the conference, Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, announced the approval of oncology projects that included the establishment of training programmes for cancer registry in collaboration with Dr Rajendra Badwe of the Tata Memorial Cancer Centre, India and the opening of the Gulf Molecular Biology forum lead by Dr Adeel Al Choudhary from Saudi Arabia.
Both these projects wil be run and lead by the UAE Genetic Diseases Association (UAEGDA) which is one of the promoinent supporters of this Congress.
Some of the notable highlights of the three-day Congress taking place from October 30-November 1 at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai is the launch of the Mena Chapter of the International Hepato Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA) — the largest multinational, multi-speciality organisation dealing with the diseases of the liver, pancreas and biliary system.
In addition to this, the Congress also awarded five research and travel grants to doctors from India, Pakistan and Egypt. The sixth edition will also be an excellent platform for all delegates from Middle Eastern and other countries around the globe to hold multi-disciplinary discussions, debates, workshops and symposiums on oncology covering areas including lung, gynaecology, GI, head and neck, breast surgery, nursing , nutrition, imaging, HPB disorders and others.
The conference will also hold three days of special workshops for nurse in partnership with the Oncology Nursing Society.
The Congress also has the support of the Shaukat Khannum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Pakistan, the Tata Memorial Cancer Centre and the Indian Cooperative Oncology Network from India.
