Dubai: The Medical Education Department of the Dubai Health Authority recently organised a symposium on emergency medicine and surgery to update medical residents with the latest in the field.

The aim of the programme was to provide residents with an up-to-date review of the most recent, clinically relevant, developments in research, therapy, and management of emergency patients and patients requiring surgery.

Such symposia provide state-of-the-art updates to help health-care professionals keep pace with rapid changes in the knowledge base, advances in technology, and updated guidelines for management of the patient, which helps optimise patient care.

The symposium was inaugurated by Dr Alya Saif Al Mazroui, CEO of Rashid Hospital, and the programme was supervised by Dr Faisal Badri, head of general surgery at Rashid Hospital, and Dr Victor Mikhaeel Butros, consultant and head of emergency department at Rashid Hospital’s Trauma Centre. It took place for a day and health professionals received 5.2 Continuing Medical Education (CME) points for attending the symposium.
