Sharjah: Free screenings for breast cancer, along with awareness lectures, will be carried out this month, announced Pink Caravan, theUAE breast cancer awareness initiative by the Friends of Cancer Patients charity (FoCP).

The initiative will team up with a number of corporations, schools and other institutions throughout the region and will carry out a range of activities to coincide with international Breast Cancer Awareness month. Just like last year, Pink Caravan’s medical teams and nurses will provide free screenings at each location throughout the month, along with awareness lectures on the importance of regular self-examination as a precaution against breast cancer.

Referrals for further investigations will also be made, if necessary.

“We need people to understand that regular self-examination can increase the chances of early detection which, in turn, can significantly raise chances of survival,” said Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, Secretary-General for FoCP and Head of the Pink Caravan’s Medical and Awareness committee.

During the campaign’s fourth edition, a number of leading retailers are also teaming up with Pink Caravan to help raise funds from their commercial public sales during October. Some will be generously offering a portion of the proceeds from existing product lines and services, while others are involved in selling unique ‘pink-themed’ items, specially created for International Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
