Dubai: In order to raise funds for diabetes research and health care in the UAE, the Landmark Group has partnered with Al Jalila Foundation for the second consecutive year as part of its diabetes initiative.

A global, not-for-profit organisation, Al Jalila Foundation was established by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support medical education, research and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and mental health in the UAE.

As part of the partnership, the Group has launched a month-long fund-raising drive throughout November across their 550+ retail outlets. Customers will have the option of donating to the cause by adding Dh5 or multiples of five to their total shopping bill, which will be recorded through an internal barcode mechanism to tabulate each contribution.

In addition to this, a nominal participation fee of Dh20 per adult and Dh10 per child in the age-group of 8-15 will be charged when participants register for the seventh annual Beat Diabetes walkathon on November 20, the proceeds of which have been allocated to Al Jalila Foundation. Children below the age of eight can participate free.

Renuka Jagtiani, vice-chairperson, Landmark Group, said: “Landmark Group is proud to join hands with Al Jalila Foundation and drive a nationwide effort to raise funds for diabetes research in the country. We invite all residents of the UAE to join hands for this noble cause.”

Dr Abdul Kareem Sultan Al Olama, CEO of the Al Jalila Foundation, said: “Landmark Group continues to be one of the leaders in driving diabetes awareness in the region. Diabetes is a condition that affects one in five in the UAE according to the International Diabetes Federation. Investing in research will help us find innovative solutions to tackle one of today’s most pressing health-care challenges. The partnership with Landmark Group, now in its second year, will further our mission to improve lives through medical education and research.”
