Dubai: A new state-of-the-art laparoscopic operating theatre at Latifa Hospital will allow doctors to perform complicated surgeries with high precision enabling better results, faster recovery and better patient care outcome.

Humaid Al Qutami, chairman of the board and director general of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) inaugurated the operating theatre on Thursday.

The theatre is equipped with the latest technology, allowing for minimally invasive surgery, DHA said in a press release.

Dr Muna Tahlak, CEO of Latifa Hospital, said the opening of the new operating theatre was in line with the international accreditation that Latifa Hospital received in 2014 from the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopy, when it was heralded as a centre of excellence in Gynecological Minimally Invasive Surgery.

“Other advantages of the new theatre include faster recovery and healing, shorter hospital stay, quicker return to work and social activities, shorter sick leave duration, better patient satisfaction and excellent cosmetic results for the patients,” she said.

The number of endoscopic surgeries have increased in Latifa Hospital from 172 in 2010 to 454 until August 2016.

Dr Tahlak said the theatre’s state-of-the-art technology includes 3D cameras, telecommunication and video conference facilities for broadcasting the surgeries live during international conferences.

Professor Dr Arnaud Wattiez, consultant gynaecology and head of the gynaecology surgery department said that, along with the new operating theatre, DHA had launched a state-of-the-art laparoscopy-training centre.

Wattiez said the training room includes 10 machines that are equipped with high definition cameras where doctors can practise complicated laparoscopic surgeries. Al Qutami said DHA will continue developing its services and facilities by adopting the latest technologies and smart services to give patients treatment that is at par with international standards to achieve a happier and healthier society.
