Dubai: Ladies, you can now turn your excess weight into watts.

The Al Saada Park at the Dubai Ladies Club, which opened on Thursday, is inviting fitness buffs and women in general to turn kinetic energy generated by exercise into electricity to power innovative devices.

The Al Saada (Arabic for happiness) Park is a new concept in Dubai that is a joint project of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) and the Dubai Ladies Club. Located in Jumeirah, the park was opened in the presence of Ohood Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness, and Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dewa, along with other officials.

The park is open to women and their children, and features social, physical, entertainment and educatiomal elements that contirbute so achieving a happy and healthy community.

“Moulding a happy and healthy individual who has a deep awaremess of her role and capabilities and a positive outlook is the utmost goal of the UAE government,” Al Roumi said.

Al Tayer said the initiative is important as it teaches the new generation the significance of preserving the environment and generating clean energy in a fun way.

The park has three main zones: the Energy Zone, Educational Zone, and the Fun Zone.

It has eight exercise machines that can generate a maximum of 800 watts per hour when used by eight people at the same time. Electricity generated at the park will be stored to power water coolers, mobile chargers and the park’s lights.
