Dubai: Top international scholars and experts will present and discuss medical researches and papers that deal with genetic diseases and different forms of cancer plaguing the region beginning Sunday.

The fifth National Genetic Disease Conference, being held under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and President of UAE Genetic Disease Association, will host 800 participants from around the world at the World Trade Centre in Dubai on Sunday.

Under the theme ‘Awareness, Preparation, and Prevention’, the four-day conference will be a platform for the presentation and discussion of an international research paper that deals with genetic mutations in breast cancer among women in the Arab region. The conference will also tackle another paper that emphasises the importance of genetic counseling in diagnosis and treatment of leukaemia.

Dr Mouin Kanaan, from Palestine, will present a scientific research on ovarian tumour in the Arab world. The latest genetic variation updates in the Arab region will also be discussed.

“We need such conferences to reach our communities and societies for them to have optimal preventive standards from genetic diseases, and also to cast light on the successful experiences and best practices in developed countries concerning genetic and inherited diseases,” Dr Mariam Mattar, chairman of UAE Genetic Disease Association, said.

Organisers said the rate of participation in the conference increased by almost 400 per cent with the contribution of more than 80 outstanding scientific institutes in the region and worldwide, and more than 80 local and global speakers. More than 120 scientific papers, most of which revolve around cancer and blood disorders, stem cells, genetic diseases, parasitic diseases, immunology and tissue culture hybridoma, genome and biotechnology will be presented.
