Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority’s Youth Council, on the opening day of the Dubai Health Forum 2018, has announced the launch of the ‘Dubai Hope Clinic’, a primary health-care clinic that will provide quality health services for free to those in need through the medium of young volunteering DHA resident doctors.

The announcement was made in the presence of Humaid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board and Director General of the DHA, and Lt General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai, who suggested that the name of the clinic be changed to ‘Zayed Clinic’ in light of the Year of Zayed.

The Chairman of the Youth Council, Dr Khalid Lootah, said the clinic, which will target those who have lower insurance categories like workers and domestic helps will be launched next month at the Nad Al Hamar Health Centre and will operate twice a month on Friday, from 3pm to 7pm.

“Based on demand, we will be studying the possibility of opening it every week and expanding it to different locations. The clinic is fully equipped with a pharmacy, X-ray and labs and four rooms that can cater to 15 patients each, totalling its daily capacity to 60 patients per day,” he said

Dr Lootah said the council was overwhelmed with the positive response from resident doctors, as out of the 350 resident doctors at DHA hospitals, 300 showed their keenness to volunteer. “This means that we are set for one and a half years,” he said.

He added that the clinic will provide family medicine, internal medicine and ophthalmology health services with plans to expand and provide dental services in the future.

Dr Lootah stressed that the initiative aims to not only involve young doctors (those under 30) but also youth from various disciplines who wish to volunteer in the medical field. “Medicine and nursing doctors will also be volunteering and gaining practical experience.”

The initiative has been launched in line with the Year of Zayed and Day for Dubai initiative.
