Dubai: A unique carbon dioxide-infused footbath can heal severe foot injuries caused by diabetes as well as burns and other injuries, an exhibitor at Arab Health said on Wednesday.

Marketed by Mitsubishi Chemical Cleansui Corporation for hospital use, this compact hydration system can prevent foot amputations especially.

Records show that every 20 seconds a lower limb is amputated because of diabetes in the world.

Explaining how the system works, Masahiko Otake of the company told Gulf News: “Carbon dioxide is a vaso dilator. The device makes uniform nano bubbles of high concentration artificial carbonated water which is warm. When a patient takes a foot bath, the heat that is easily transferred deep into the tissue and the carbon dioxide that penetrates into tissue relax the vascular system enabling oxygen and nutrients to reach the affected tissue via the dilated blood vessels triggering the healing process.”

The foot bath will be made available for hospital use as it requires trained staff to operate it.
