Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) seized and destroyed 560 kilograms of unsafe food products during a series of surprise visits. Some of the targeted food establishments, including restaurants, markets and storage houses in Musaffah Industrial area, received 11 warnings and three fines, according to an ADFCA official. The inspectors found only one facility that met all the standards and requirements while they handed notice to three shops.

Out of 65 restaurants inspectors visited, 13 were following all the rules and regulations. Three restaurants were imposed fines for violations while 36 were given warnings. The inspection team issued notices to 13 restaurants while they seized and destroyed food items amounting to 33 kilograms for not complying with the standards.

The team visited a total of five storage houses in the area, of which only one met all the regulations. Warnings were issued to three facilities while the remaining one was given notice by the inspectors.

Mohammad Jalal Al Raisi, Director of Communication and Community Service Division at ADFCA, said: “The objective of our inspection campaigns — both the routine and the surprise ones- is to guarantee the availability of safe and healthy products to public.”

The authority has adopted a stringent mechanism to carry out inspections on food establishments. The inspectors use high-tech equipment to inspect safety and quality levels of food products available in the market. Officials confiscate and destroy products immediately if any items are found not suitable for human consumption, the press release said.
