Abu Dhabi: Around 4,000 people are expected to attend the third International Day of Yoga at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) on Tuesday night, said Navdeep Singh Suri, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE.
He said Shaikh Nahayan Bin Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and Shaikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of State for Tolerance, would grace the occasion.
Participants are advised to reach the venue by 8.30pm as yoga awareness session will begin at 9pm. Various yoga associations would perform different styles of yogasanas. Keeping Ramadan in mind, the main yoga session will start at 10:30pm and conclude by 11:15pm.
An area on the first floor has been reserved for women in Abayas and others who wish to do yogasanas separately with a lady instructor.
In preparation of the event, the Embassy of India has organised a yoga quiz contest on its Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/IndiaInUAE/. The embassy has also organised a photo/selfie competition on three-generations simultaneously performing Yogasanas, and an essay competition on the theme of yoga’s role in antenatal, depression and cancer. These competitions have received enthusiastic response and will continue up to June 21, 2017. Winners would announce shortly thereafter.
Shaikh Zayed University in Abu Dhabi and its faculty and students are supporting the event in a big way by organising Arabic calligraphy for the yoga icon, designing Sanskrit slokas banner and creating amazing yoga artwork.
Free parking, free entry, free yoga shirts and free yoga mats will be available on first come first serve basis to the participants.
