Sharjah: More than 3,000 people have taken advantage of the free medical services provided by Sharjah Health Authority (SHA) and University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) this month.

As a part of their social responsibility, the initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular medical examinations.

This is the second consecutive year the two entities have jointly offered free medical tests and screenings.

Last week, the camp was set up at the Sharjah Directorate of Town Planning, where a team of specialist nurses from UHS undertook the tests, with 225 employees and visitors benefiting from the results and advice provided.

Since the campaign’s inception, UHS partnered with nine different entities, including: Sharjah Economic Development Department, Consultative Council of Sharjah, Directorate of Town Planning and Survey, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Hamriyah Free Zone, Sahara Centre, Mega Mall and many more.

Commenting on the initiative, Abdullah Ali Al Mahyan, Chairman of SHA and Chairman of Board of Trustees, at UHS, said: “This campaign was inspired by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s declaration that 2017 will be the ‘Year of Giving’. Last year, the campaign was a great success and we hope to double the number of participants this year as part of our proactive approach to improve the overall health and well-being of our community.”
