Dubai: Three decades ago, an all-female crew set off on a mission to sail the world. At the time, they received support from King Hussain bin Talal, King of Jordan. ‘Maiden’, the captain Tracy Edwards’ boat, was used to break records in 1989.

Today, King Hussain’s daughter, Princess Haya Bint Al Hussain, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and Chairperson of Dubai Healthcare City Authority, is supporting The Maiden Factor, which will see the original boat restored and relaunched.

On her official Facebook page, Princess Haya shared her intentions and introduced the world to her ‘Anything is Possible’ initiative.

She wrote: “Thirty years ago, my father supported Tracy Edwards and her all-female crew on their mission to sail around the world. They went on to break records and inspire a generation of girls to believe that, with faith, honour and courage, ‘Anything is Possible.’ Now, through my ‘Anything is Possible’ initiative in my father’s memory, it is my great honour to support The Maiden Factor, which will see Tracy Edwards’ iconic boat, ‘Maiden’ restored and relaunched on a world tour in support of girls’ education charities. #AnythingIsPossible #MaidenFactor #Faith #Honour #Courage”

The official website for this initiative is www.anythingispossible.world. A video highlighting the initiative confirms that this would be a three-year global tour, which will highlight “the need for gender balance in education, continuing the belief that anything is possible”.
