Abu Dhabi: The UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will always be a global leader in clean energy generation, said His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“This is in order to preserve our local environment and achieve sustainable, low-cost development,” Shaikh Mohammad added.

Shaikh Mohammad made these remarks on Wednesday while visiting the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2018, the largest sustainability gathering in the Middle East.

“The existence of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) in the UAE is the best evidence that we are at the forefront of countries implementing giant projects in clean and renewable energy field. The UAE has been able to win the votes of the world when it was nominated for hosting Irena, which is globally concerned with finding innovative solutions to ensure the provision of sustainable energy and new sources of water in different parts of the world,” Shaikh Mohammad said.

The Vice-President toured various pavilions at the exhibition taking place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), from January 13 to 20, with the participation of over 600 public and private sector organisations from across 40 countries.
