New York: The UAE’s second consulate in the United States was inaugurated in New York on Friday.

Majid Al Suwaidi will serve as Consul General.

Speaking on the occasion, Reem Bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, said: “New York city represents a very important global hub for business and trade and that made it an integral part of UAE-USA expanding partnerships.”

The move comes in line with the UAE’s efforts to enhance bilateral relations and will enable both countries to further build on their strong relations, especially in New York, as it is one of the biggest five states exporting to the UAE, and the US’s largest trade port with the UAE in which the total volume of trade increased from $626m in 1999 to $1.9billion in 2014.

Al Hashemi pointed out that the cultural communication between the UAE and US is growing rapidly thanks to the partnerships between the US academic and cultural institutions and their counterparts in the UAE.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr Thani Ahmad Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and Yousef Al Otaiba, Ambassador of the UAE to the United States of America, as well as other senior officials and businessmen.
