Abu Dhabi: An Indian Foreign Service officer, Vipul, is expected to become the new Indian consul-general in Dubai, Gulf News has learnt.

Vipul, who uses his first name only, will succeed the current consul-general Anurag Bhushan, whose official tenure is ending soon.

Currently a joint secretary at the office of Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Vipul is expected to take charge in early 2017, an Indian government official said on condition of anonymity.

With Vipul’s appointment, the two Indian diplomatic missions in the UAE — the embassy in Abu Dhabi and consulate in Dubai — will be headed by new faces.

As Gulf News reported, Navdeep Singh Suri took charge as the Indian ambassador to the UAE on Monday. He succeeded T.P Seetharam who retired from service in August.

Suri was serving as the Indian High Commissioner to Australia before this assignment. He submitted a copy of his credentials to Mohammad Meer Al Raisi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Wednesday.

Bhushan had taken charge in Dubai in 2013. The 1995 batch Indian Foreign Service officer is expected to take up an assignment with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi.
