Dubai: The UAE has added another feather to its cap with approving the UAE Government Excellence System as a global reference to governments in improving government efficiency, and approach to the formation of future governments.

The Government Excellence System was approved and announced on Tuesday during a ceremony held in Dubai in the presence of representatives of nine prominent international excellence and quality organisations.

The nine organisations include the European Organisation for Quality (EOQ), Asia Pacific Quality Organisation (APQO), Australian Organisation for Quality Inc (AOQ), Juran Global, European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), International Academy for Quality (IAQ), American Society for Quality (ASQ), Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) and University of Miami.

The launch of the system comes in line with the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to achieve excellence and enhance the UAE’s leadership in this field

Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, said that the UAE government, under the directives of Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is pressing ahead with its progress of excellence and development and making global achievements that enhance its leadership position. Through adopting innovation as an approach, the UAE has become a reference to governments seeking to improve their performance for the happiness and quality of life of their communities.

The government excellence system is a leading model in shaping future governments based on excellence and renewable innovation, and the development of business models in government work, Al Gergawi further said, adding that getting the global accreditation entails a great responsibility that requires the system to be developed by enhancing its flexibility and adaptability so as to keep up with the changes and proactively deal with them, as well as to benefit from the rapid technological development and create mechanisms and platforms that enhance its global standing.

For her part, Uhoud Bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness and Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office of UAE, said that the UAE leadership since two decades has realised that excellence is a fundamental and strategic option for the development of work systems in public and private sectors. The government will focus on the results of excellence system, its impact and effectiveness, and how to transform excellence into a daily culture, approach and practice, she added.

The event was attended by more than 120 officials including ministry agents, general managers, officials from the UAE government, general secretaries of executive councils in the UAE, general coordinators as well as other officials.

The Excellence system has been adopted as a fundamental tool for the assessment of government bodies adopting excellence programmes on the federal level represented by Shaikh Khalifa Excellence Programme, and the Dubai Government Excellence Programme and Abu Dhabi Excellence Programme on the local level.

The system aims to define the level of maturity reached by these bodies in their quest to achieve leadership and highlight achievements for welfare of society.
