His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, highlighted the importance of intellectual forums that bring together enthusiasts of knowledge and culture.

Dr Shaikh Sultan was speaking during a ceremony marking the launch of the French version of his book ‘Under the Flag of Occupation’ in Paris.

A number of ministers, intellectuals, diplomats, academics and members of Sharjah’s cultural and media delegations as well as publishers and media representatives were present at the ceremony.

“The book’s cover can tell its content. ‘Flag Under Occupation’ is a book that tells the story of Sharjah under the British occupation when the flag of Al Qasimi family was replaced by that of the occupation,” said the Sharjah Ruler.

The new version comes within a series of books that have been translated into French. These books include ‘Power Struggles and Trade in the Gulf’, ‘Al Qasimi and British Aggression’ and ‘Tale of a City’ as well as the book ‘Sharjah between Protection and Colonialism’, which will be published soon, he added.

He promised that all his collection of books would be translated into French at the upcoming edition of the Paris Book Fair.

“The culture of France has always inspired me and encouraged me to write more. My library is full of French books that reflect the French people’s passion for culture especially those dealing with Egypt and its architectural treasures and its rich historical, environmental and human legacy,” Dr Shaikh Sultan said.

He expressed his hope for a sincere cooperation between various cultures to save humanity.

Following the ceremony, Dr Shaikh Sultan signed many French copies of the book ‘Under the Flag of Occupation’, which he dedicated to the attendees.
