Sharjah: All books from publishing houses participating at the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival will be bought for Dh2.5 million by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The move aims to enhance the content of books available in Sharjah’s libraries, and to supply them with new published works that complement Sharjah’s cultural vision.

Ahmad Bin Rakkad Al Ameri, chairman of Sharjah Book Authority, said that this support for the festival and participating publishers is not strange to Dr Shaikh Sultan. Al Ameri said that every year Dr Shaikh Sultan finds an opportunity to activate the emirate’s cultural movement, while at the same enhancing the intellectual content of educational and cultural facilities and institutions.

Al Ameri pointed out that the gesture to acquire the books is in line with a comprehensive system, which had its foundations consolidated by Dr Shaikh Sultan ever since he adopted the implementation of the Sharjah Cultural project.

He said that Dr Shaikh Sultan had always stressed that culture is an act that integrates the role of institutions, authorities and individuals to achieve their goals and create generations and communities who are armed with knowledge and are capable of shaping their nation’s future.
